Addiction is hard to quell, especially due to withdrawal’s mental toll on the body. In the second verse of “Doctors Orders,” Erykah Officer conveys her body’s distress “heartache and get body pains/ driving me insane at the thoughts of losing you,” attempting to rid of their presence. Over smoldering keys illuminating the soundscape softly like a lantern, spacious drums, and a sugary electric guitar, the atmosphere is warm and dense.

Building them up with praise, “I’ve become addicted to the high of you,” just to let them down in the following line, “I became numb to the downfall,” creating this rise and fall throughout the song. “I’m sick of you,” is cooed with conviction, letting her frustration seep through at the end as the guitar solo matched her agitation.
