Atlanta via Louisiana artist Fase Yoda’s music video “Because Of You” is out now: stream it here. Daily Chiefers caught up with Fase Yoda in Louisiana.

What’s your earliest memory of music?

Man, it’s crazy, bro. I would say what got me in tune with music and got me that versatile lane was when Thug came out with Lifestyle. That inspired me to go in the booth. I actually thought I was going to be a producer. I was going crazy on ProTools. I had an old Windows computer. I used to make beats for local artists. When I got them back, I used to think I should hop on my own beats. I used to watch a lot of Internet Money videos. Shout out to Internet Money.

What made going from producing to recording work for you?

Spending time on it. You have to have the voice for it. I didn’t know I had the voice for it. The crazy thing about it is I had another guy named Mustafa. He said he wanted to show me how to record myself.

How did you link up with Danny Hajj?

I linked up with Danny four years ago. We were in Atlanta. I walked into Danny’s house thanks to an invite from a friend. He was in the basement going crazy with the beats. Our interaction was very genuine and we instantly became friends. We didn’t even make music that day, we just kicked it. Ended up going crazy in the studio together the next day and have been brothers ever since. We locked in.

How musical is your family?

A lot of my family did music but they never succeeded. My dad and my grandpa are really good singers. They never taught me. Over time, I made my own wave.

How do they feel about your career?

It’s surprising to them. It’s unbelievable.

How did you get the name Fase Yoda?

I got the name Fase from the guy Mustafa I was talking about earlier. His name was Fase. I also hid my music because I didn’t think it was good, I never showed anyone. I showed him the music though as he was my friend at the time. I played him some music and he said I was one of the hardest artists he ever heard out of Louisiana. He said he would quit music and give me his name. I took it and added Yoda to it which represents my spiritual side.

Is it fair to say your collaborators are diverse?

Yes. Very diverse. Everybody who I was around didn’t make just one style of music. Myself, I was actually going through different styles. That got everybody’s attention being around me and me being the person I am today. Pushing forward towards different creativity.

What was the recording process behind your track Because Of You?

Danny and I were in The Cut. It’s a studio in Atlanta called The Cut. We were at home and Danny produced the record. I wrote it at home. We had a session there later that day. It was a feeling. I only wrote the hook of the song and the rest came from there.

What inspired the music video for Because Of You?

We put that together on the spot. Me and Rich Porter have chemistry. He is NBA YoungBoy’s videographer. He’s from Louisiana as well. We got together and discussed scenes. At that time, we were running late. We just made it work. Shout out Rich Porter.

Do you tend to work closely with day ones?

Most definitely.

How often are you traveling?

I’m actually in Louisiana. I got a nice real home out here. I’m in Atlanta and LA a lot. I record a lot at home here in Louisiana too. If I don’t engineer myself, Alan pulls up. I call him The Wizard.

Are you working on a new album at the moment?

I’m actually working on a couple of albums. These are both my albums. My first one will be all me. No features. For production, Danny. The album is called Fallen Angel. I have so many versatile songs the world hasn’t seen yet. I’ve been focusing on this first one. It’s pretty much done. We just have to add more production to it.

Are you making this album with live performances in mind?

Most definitely.

Who puts on great shows?

XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD. Their energy was crazy when it came to live shows.

How old are you?

I’m in my prime. I’m Michael Jordan, man. 23. I’m a Pisces. My birthday is March 16th.

A$AP Rocky or Travis Scott?

Damn, that’s a hard one, bro. Travis Scott is a big inspiration.

Kendrick Lamar or J. Cole?

Kendrick Lamar. His album is crazy. J Cole is an all-time great as well.

Drake or Rick Ross?

Drake, he’s the GOAT. Ross a legend, too. Shout out to Rozay.

Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad?

Game of Thrones.

T.I. or Ludacris?

T.I.

If you could speak to your 18-year-old self today, what would you say to him?

I’d say I’m really proud of your little ass. Stay hungry.

What’s dropping next?

I got a few songs with videos already shot. I’ll be dropping this next month.

What’s your favorite food?

That’s hard. I eat everything, bro. Let me ask you this. Have you ever heard of boudin?

I haven’t. What is that, gumbo?

It’s a Louisiana dish. It’s a sausage filled with rice and meat. It’s good as fuck. It’s seasoned. It’s lit.
