JMB Juvie‘s come up has been and continues to be something to behold. The Georgia rapper has been on a non-stop grind since his “Wicked” freestyle went viral while he was still incarcerated. His debut LP with Alamo Records, titled From The Cage To The Stage, serves as both a celebration of his remarkable achievements and a preview of even greater things to come.
“Rough Riders” established a hard-hitting tone right out of the gate, and it eases gratefully into the polished version of “Wicked” that Juvie dropped last summer. Alabama legend Big Yavo pops in for a verse on “KTA,” and the sparks definitely fly between the two rappers. After “Lemon Squeeze,” which dropped earlier this week as a single, “Double Back” emerges as one of the record’s best tracks. Juvie‘s flow is as hard as anything else I’ve heard this year, and he rides the whole track beautifully from beginning to end.
“Lucked Up” and “Rich Off Pain” are two tracks that are consummate Juvie – his ability to spin stories from his life into catchy and streetwise songs is second to none. The record closes out on the original acapella version of “Wicked,” bringing closure to an incredible year and the first act of what will be a long and successful career.
