Two songs in, and I’m convinced Karrahboo can do no wrong. The Atlanta rapper’s latest single, “Box Da 40,” initially dropped in December before being pulled off streaming platforms, blurs the line between apathy and pugnacious.
Her unconcerned delivery pivots observation, “Boy, this is not a condo/it’s just three stories,” into disrespect, threats into playful flips, “I know words don’t hurt you, so I throw stones,” and ego deaths into a group chat announcement “he ain’t know what he was doing/ I did not squirt “with snappy, digestible punchlines over reedy strings and pulsating percussion. Each punchline could be expressed with emoji, simple yet filled with character.
