After shouting out a few of the Mello Music Group crew on this Kev Brown produced instrumental, Kenn Starr quickly gets down to it on “The Movement II” with the bars, “battling my demons, trying to grind, even when it seems shit defeated, trying to find meaning in this green that I’m chiefing, like the smoke hold hidden messages.”
From there the DMV lyricist demonstrates why he moves within Oddisee’s circle, and gives us an idea of what to expect from his sophomore album Square One set to release on MMG January 27th. Although it has been 8 years since his debut Starr Status made rounds, this next project will be gifted with production largely coming from Kev Brown and “a nice block of vintage production by Black Milk.” 14KT, Roddy Rod, and Kiambr will fill out the sound, and Kenn’s laid back flow over soul-laced beats promises a wise humility within the bars alongside that of yU and Wordsworth. More to come next year, but for now roll one and spin this dope display of lyricism.
