Hailing from North Carolina, the recent high school graduate, Kevin Powers, is one of my favorite Early Risers to come out of 2020. The 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Boston brings a youthful twist to the melodic-rap world, infusing bits and pieces of several genres to create a powerful sound.
I stumbled upon Kevin Powers this morning after he premiered his first music video with YouTube masterminds, Promoting Sounds. After digging further into his discography, you can tell that his incredible attentive cult fanbase has been anticipating this record and video for quite some time, considering before this moment there hadn’t been any Kevin Powers music videos on the web. Quite honestly, the video is definitely enjoyable. Although it is almost certain there will be a lot of comparisons to Jack Harlow based on the two’s similar looks and vibes, but in my opinion, if you take Jack Harlow and give his sound a melodic twist, that right there is Kevin Powers.
Powers has notably built his sound with producer and longtime friend, Whit Kane. After connecting with the talented Kosmic Shots, the team has brought us the incredible new visual for Powers‘ single “Walked In.” If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, don’t worry, I got you below.
