My first introduction to Memphis’ Quezz Ruthless was through his song “Pop My Shii” from two years ago. The frantic, hard-hitting production matched his breakneck flows effortlessly. Next to him in throughout the video was his close friend and frequent collaborator, the late Big Scarr. Scarr was easily my favorite rapper out of Memphis ever since coming across his video for “Frozone” in September 2020.

Even amid the Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano hype, I knew Scarr‘s moment was near. Last year, Scarr‘s deluxe of his Big Grim Reaper project invaded the South and stamped him as one of Memphis’ hottest rising talents. Shouldering the weight of a loss like that is unimaginable, but if there’s anyone that can carry on his legacy, it’s Quezz Ruthless.

“Wild Child” shows a commanding presence that we get flashes of but haven’t gotten it consistently yet. We’ve seen it on his feature on Big Scarr‘s “MJ”, as well as on songs like “Pop My Shii”, and “Another One”. However, on “Wild Child” you can feel how much Scarr‘s untimely passing has really put a battery in Quezz‘s back. Check out “Wild Child” below.
