The Kansas bar cutter Stik Figa and North Carolinian production prodigy L’Orange have been slow leaking bits of their upcoming collab project The City Under The City. For any ride or die Mello Music Group aficionado, this is an ideal pairing that seems more fantasy lineup up than a reality that would see the light of day. Yet, the proof came first in the form of “Blind Tiger” and “Monochrome,” and has now been followed up by the audio/visual offering “Smoke Rings.” Expedited through a 2 minute, hookless series of hail fire bars that land on L’s tactful use of minimalist drums and horns, the Drew Weaver directed visual sweeps through fresh transitions from full color to gray scale. The simple cinematograph and sonic pairing is choice in that it accentuates, but leaves the focus on pure musicality. The rest of the full length projects drops on Tuesday, October 15th, and I will have an exclusive duel interview with both of the MMG agents publishing here sooner than later.
