With the culture of music videos constantly changing, from the high-production world building sets of Hype Williams, going to the classic works of Spike Jonze and Director X which inevitable inspired the run n’ gun style of Dexter Navy – the pioneer of the psychedelic infused run n’ gun we see today – all eventually leading to the culture-shifting videos from Cole Bennet that has influenced many of the videos we see today.
Especially given the quarantine taking up much of 2020 and 2021, run n’ gun was the only option and we even saw many mainstream stars resort to the underground dominant style. This also allowed room for this young community of videographers to thrive, honing in on their craft and we’ve since gotten some one of a kind talents such as Dotcom Nirvan, Moshpxt, Lonewolf, and more.
With this being the first year back bringing together high budget videos, we’ve seen many of these large scale productions infuse the techniques of the run n’ gun videos we fell in love with over the past couple of years, coming together for a never before seen style. The music video has always been essential to the come-up in rap and hip-hop, and here’s some videos that we saw not only break barriers creatively but also elevate these artists to another level.
