This is the first encounter I’ve had with Wells music, but his approach is brilliant showcasing his meshing of regional influences. Starting things off with “Heardheaded” you can hear Houston ring through the speakers during this chopped and screwed anthem, while the production has a qualities similar to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Then Wells follows up things with “Where Dreams Go To Die” a bop sounding like it’s popped out of the 80’s, while gifting us a distinctive style. The way Wells breaks down his verses still portrays the quintessential rap wave, but it’s refreshing to see experimentation from modern musicians.
“Sic or Sumn” is a pimpish mood to ride to, with a soulful sample atop a smooth set of percussion. “Bills Feels” is a more spaced-out vibe, but alas takes us on a intoxicating walk through Wells mental capacity. “Htx” is a dark and powerful set of baselines and honest bars to leave us enthralled. Overall Wells truly impresses on this project and is back putting out gas. Peep this work from the North Carolina-native and we’ll talk to you soon.
