Complex always has the dopest articles and I always want to share the most interesting ones. For this article, Complex sat down and talked to the fastest rising artist out of Brooklyn…nah, the whole New York, Joey Bada$$ of Pro Era. It’s not often you get people buzzing about an artist before they drop their debut mixtape. The last artist I can recall with that kind of buzz was A$AP Rocky, even though it wasn’t that long ago. Well, Joey is the new guy now. Bringing back the love for lyrical hip-hop with his 90s influenced raps, Joey Bada$$ spoke to Complex about the reception of 1999.

“It’s been a lot of great feedback. I just remain humble about it. I just try to stay off the Internet because I don’t want it to alter my motives and my next move. I want people to think of me as very unpredictable. People never know my next move, so I stay away from all that.”

He also had this to say about the internet:

“I stopped using my Facebook. I don’t know. It’s crazy—people try to change you and shit. I’m not with that. I stay true to myself. I read reviews. I pay attention to what bloggers say. I can’t really explain it [Laughs.] I just try to stay off the Internet. I definitely know they are enjoying it. I am still young and I got my whole life ahead of me. This is only the beginning. I just remembered that. It’s only the beginning.”

This is just an excerpt from the interview with Complex.  You can read the rest of the interview here where he talks about being cosigned by Hit-Boy, wanting to be acknowledged by Jay-Z and Pro-Era’s collective project.  I’m definitely loving the mixtape and looking forward to seeing Joey LIVE when he comes down to South Florida in August for the Smoker’s Club Tour with Chevy, Juicy J, DZA and more.
