Coming off of their collabs “Ain’t Enuff” and “7 Hours”, Baton Rouge rhymer Wakai connects with Israeli producer Gal Ramraz for Flashbacks. The two already released tracks’ electronic/house-influenced sound balances perfectly with Wakai’s coruscating flows throughout the project.
Flashbacks details five mental pictures that Wakai looks to illustrate to his audience. The other three tracks “Lukewarm”, “Can’t Keep” and the title track are more on the Lofi Hip-Hop side of things. However, they still incorporate the nostalgic feel of looking back on old memories and reminiscing.
The Project will be the 22-year-old rapper’s second body of work this year succeeding an excellent 12-track effort earlier this year titled To A Dark Boy. The project was home to songs like “Silhouette” with Marco Plus, “When There Was No Sun” ft. Mick Jenkins and a personal favorite of mine “Lively”.
