California’s Bay Area producer Wrathmatics is at it again, and this time the instrumental mastermind has made a cross coast connection with New York’s YZ the MC on the cut “Anticipation”. Wrath reached out and wanted us to have the exclusive on this status aperitif of what he has been cooking in the lab, and more importantly, what direction he is taking for the future. Sticking to his eyes and ear for digging, Wrath employs a tasteful soul sample, drawn out horns, and subtle string accents over riding snare and bass. Before YZ even steps onto the track, the soundscape is filled with a grooving tone that only hits harder when he finally spits over two minutes of continues bars. The East Coast delivery congeals with the low impact Western vibe, and YZ offers what might be his most solid collection of lines thus far. Seems the beat brought it out in him, but leaves us wanting more from both parties. Look out for YZ’s upcoming release When My Parents Fall Asleep dropping March 30th, and stay tuned for more from the West Egg affiliate Wrathmatics coming soon, too.
