Nate Joël’s recent EP KIDS AT HEART features the Silver Spring, Maryland artist chronicling his maturation in a uniquely coming of age format where the person he has become is in full view. He makes it clear that his adult life is governed in many ways by the ideals and fervor of youth, never losing sight of his adolescent emotions, making sure to honor them as he grows. The EP is short at only five-tracks but potent in lyricism over varied yet uniform production, courtesy of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, that is largely subdued and gives Joël the spotlight in full. “Call Me When You Need Me” is my favorite cut off the project and is the most melodic and introspective song on the tape in my opinion. I really look forward to hearing more from Nate Joël as the year rolls on and hope to see more visuals from him as well in the rest of 2022.
